Carbon Reduction Plan

3 January 2022

Commitment to achieving Net Zero

This Carbon Reduction Plan details our organisations carbon footprint and confirms our commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040.

At Buzz Housekeeping Services, we are committed to doing the right thing and recognise the urgency of the climate change agenda, and plan to decarbonise the economy for a greener, more sustainable future. We are on our carbon reduction journey having reduced carbon dioxide equivalent emissions (Scope 1, 2, and operational Scope 3) by 12% from 2020 to 2022.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline emissions footprint Baseline year:

We have chosen the years 2020 to 2021 as our baseline year of emission usage, to give an accurate reflection.

Includes direct emissions, those associated with direct consumption of natural gas, heating, fuel as well as emissions associated with owned and leased vehicles and fugitive emissions

Includes indirect emissions associated with the purchase and consumption of local electricity and distinct heating energy.

Covers all indirect emissions such as business travel, hotel stays, waste disposal, upstream emissions from purchased fuels and electricity. Also, emissions from employees teleworking have been factored which includs estimates from home energy consumption.

Emissions Reduction Targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets and project that our carbon emissions will decrease over the next three years to 35.5 tCO2e by 2025. This is a reduction of 50%

We expect that our next report will decrease more since working through the pandemic and intend to minimise our business travel by promoting more green travel initiatives.

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets:

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects was implemented since the 2020 – 2021 baseline to increase our commitment to carbon reduction:

  • Looking at ways to reduce our paper output, we have moved towards a paperless office. Currently moving towards a digital portal base. Which was achieved during the pandemic period. We expect that this may need to be an ongoing project, but monitoring has been put in place to assess data on areas of high usage.
  • We have rolled out the use of Skype for Business as well as Microsoft Teams and Zoom. We have also improved video conferencing facilities to ensure our commitment to encourage the ongoing use of virtual meetings to minimise business travel.
Future Carbon Reduction Initiatives

In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:

Continuing to seek other ways and means to reduce or eliminate our paper-based activity

Reviewing our flexible working policy to see how we can support the reduction of commuting

Reviewing our office suppliers to look for environmentally-friendly and locally-sourced options

We already encourage staff to use public transport (trains and buses) where possible, however where car travel is required we will be looking into and considering the implementation of green and electric options
