NHS Domestic Service Assistant (MON – FRI) (4PM-8PM)

Job Summary

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 4:00pm – 8:00pm

As a Domestic Services Operative, you will play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across hospital wards and communal areas. Working Monday to Friday, 4pm–8pm, you’ll ensure that all cleaning tasks are carried out in line with the NHS National Cleaning Standards 2021, supporting infection prevention, patient safety, and overall wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Cleaning & Hygiene

  • Clean patient rooms, bathrooms, and communal areas to NHS Cleaning Standards 2021.

  • Maintain cleanliness of sanitary areas while respecting patient privacy.

  • Follow frequency and routines outlined in NHS National Cleaning Specifications.

  • Assist with cleaning of high-risk and isolation areas in line with infection control guidance.

2. Infection Control

  • Work collaboratively with clinical teams to uphold infection prevention protocols.

  • Use only approved cleaning methods, materials, and PPE in line with COSHH and hygiene guidelines.

3. Waste Management

  • Dispose of general and clinical waste safely, following hospital policies.

  • Maintain hygiene standards around waste disposal zones and bins.

4. Equipment & Materials

  • Use industrial cleaning equipment safely and competently as trained.

  • Ensure cleaning supplies are used according to COSHH instructions and are stored appropriately.

  • Report low stock levels or faulty equipment promptly.

5. Beverage & Snack Support

  • Serve beverages and snacks to patients as required, maintaining high hygiene standards.

  • Ensure food handling aligns with infection control and hygiene training.

6. Team Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with domestic supervisors, nurses, and wider hospital staff.

  • Support a positive and efficient working environment within the team.

  • Adapt to any changing cleaning needs as directed by supervisory staff.

Requirements:

  • Ability to follow detailed cleaning and hygiene protocols.

  • Understanding of COSHH and infection control principles (training will be provided).

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Respect for patient confidentiality and dignity.

Further Training will be provided.
